Abstract
Cleft lip and/or palate has been one of the commonest congenital anomalies.
The etiological factors of these anomalies have been statistically and experimentally
studied by many scholars, but they are not yet understood perfectly.
So this study was performed to provide the important statistical data in cleft lip and
palate.
From the clinical data of the 50 patients with cleft lip and cleft lip c palate who had been admitted and operated at Dong Kang Hospital from January 1983 to September 1987, we have obtained the following results;
1. The incidence of cleft lip and/or palate was 2.5 per 1,000 live births.
2. The ratio of cleft lip: Cleft lip with palate was 1.0:0.67. Cleft lip and cleft lip with palate were more common in male.
3. The ratio of left side: right side: bilateral type was 2.8:1.2:1.0.
4. According to the severity, the ratio of complete type: incomplete type was 1.0:2.8 in cleft lip, 9.0:1.0 in cleft lip with palate.
5. There was no statistical significance in parent¢¥s age at birth and birth order.
6. There was statistical significance in season of birth.
7. The rate of positive prenatal history during the first trimester of pregnancy was
30 %in medication and 32 ¢¥loin disease of total patients.
8. The rate of positive family history was 8 %
